Effective July 5, 2019 NACHATROOM.ORG became NEVERALONECLUB.ORG

From 2006 to 2019 NACHATROOM.ORG grew to where it welcomed as many as 150 newcomers a day - 30,000 to 50,000 annually. It sought to help people find local meetings of Narcotics Anonymous and a sponsor to work the 12 steps with.

The group behind NACHATROOM.ORG helped visitors "kick dope" and held our visitors stories and their incomprehensible suffering in their hands with them. Above all, we sought to welcome and encourage our visitors. Many addicts know that their lives can be saved, they just do not know that their lives are worth saving.

While it was always exciting to hear about someone attending their first meeting or hearing that they had some time clean or had turned their lives around, one has to wonder what ever became of the other tens of thousands of people who came and went from NACHATROOM.ORG

Ultimately the original site wasn't inclusive enough of the entire Recovery Community and their own personal goals for recovery and we probably missed out on 500,000+ opportunities to give EVERY VISITOR something they could use, such as the Relapse Prevention and Educational topics we will offer here.

The new site will emphasize the ability of every single person -- even those with one day clean -- to welcome and encourage someone who is suffering alongside them. It will feature other types of groups with other types of messages than merely that of Narcotics Anonymous.

"The other 95%" shouldn't be thrown away or denied the option of having a safe and supportive network in their back pocket at all times if NA's message isn't attractive to them.

On our old site, our "success" was measured by who reported that they "went to a meeting" or got and stayed clean and sober for awhile. But we have talked to countless thousands of people struggling with addiction. Did we fail with them if we were the first kind word they had heard in a long time? Or if we gave them another option besides using that day?

Our new motto is "Lighting the Beacon" and that is what we are going to focus on.

We will not be attached to "results" or "conversions." We will just be here for one another and try to teach some tools of recovery in our new meeting formats. Whether or not anyone attends one of the programs in our Recovery Resources guides, we can try to teach everybody something while they are here and attending one of our meetings. In some sense it will be business as usual -- we're still going to talk people through kicking dope and hold their stories in our hands with them. But we are not focused on scoring "converts" anymore.

An honest look at our history will show instances where members were not valued or welcomed. Where there was endless bickering over authority and control and "who does not like whom." We had a problem where some people were so determined to steer every single visitor into THEIR agenda, they barely listened to our newcomers. More than once, these problems have almost been the death of this site.

We've seen evangelical steppers with "pushy" and obnoxious agendas to shove 12 step programs down peoples throats within seconds of them joining our chatroom and this is not acceptable anymore. We have witnessed visitors who weren't even SURE if they had a problem yet being berated for not being "clean enough" and this has run God only knows how many people out the door and back to the drugs. It has taken a crisis of conscience on par with our drug crisis for us to say enough is enough and formally distance ourselves from any type of 12 step or other recovery program.

"All are welcome, but not all behaviors"

Under no circumstances will we abide sexual or financial predation, harassment/stalking, bullying, anti-LGBT sentiment, or stigmatization of the mentally ill (including those perceived as mentally ill.) We will not abide spiritual abuse -- such as telling people they are not worthy of recovery, God's grace, or their place in this world -- or that they'll "never get it."

Anybody behaving in this fashion does not represent or speak for NEVERALONECLUB.ORG -- Type !REPORT to get a moderator's attention so that we can get address intolerance, bigotry, disharmony or disrespect in the chatroom.

"There is no such thing as a hopeless addict."

Our re-birth is inspired by St. Therese, who looked on all of humanity as a field of flowers:

"The splendor of the rose and the whiteness of the lily do not take away the perfume of the violet or the delightful simplicity of the daisy. I understand that if all flowers wanted to be roses, nature would lose her springtime beauty, and the fields would no longer be decked out with little wild flowers. "

The new NEVERALONECLUB.ORG will be as diverse as Therese's wildflowers and it is hoped that everyone will find a lobby where they feel safe, where they hear stuff that inspires them, helps them want to be a better person, or helps them get through their day.

Everyone has a place somewhere in our garden, no matter where you are on your journey and no matter what your goals are. No addict need ever to live or die alone again.
